A shorter-barrel version of this model and handle is better known as Bolo or Bolshevik.
The Soviet Russia purchased such pistols to equip the troops of All-Russian Extraordinary Commission for Combating Counter-Revolution, Speculation, and Sabotage and Joint State Political Directorate in the period between 1926 and early 1930’. More than 30 000 Mauser pistols were supplied to the Soviet Union.
Some of the soviet high-rank military commanders used it as sidearm during the Great Patriotic War (1941 — 1945), namely Soviet Army General Ivan Bagramyan who was twice awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
