The rifle, also called “Trekhlineika” (after the caliber measured in the British system of units), served for 50 years in the armed forces of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union.
The model is a copy of the previous flat-nosed bullet model, which was used in the battles of Port Arthur, Wafangou, and Mukden during the Russo-Japanese War (1904 – 1905).
