Mauser Red 9

The Mauser “Red 9,” a special variant of the C96, was developed during World War I for the German military. Chambered in 9mm Parabellum, it featured a distinct red-painted “9” on the wooden grips to differentiate it from the standard 7.63mm model, preventing soldiers from using the wrong ammunition. The Red 9 was issued to German troops, including stormtroopers and artillery units, where it was valued for its power and range. Although production ended in 1918, the Red 9 remained in use through the war and continued to see action in post-war conflicts. Its distinctive markings and historical significance made it an iconic version of the C96.
