The carbine with folding bayonet knife (Semin design) entered serial production in February 1944 instead of the long-barreled rifle. It was intended for all branches of the Soviet Armed Forces. In the early 1950s, the Soviet design of the folding bayonet was used by China to equip the Chinese-made Kalashnikov assault rifle, also known as the Type 56 of 1956.
