This model of revolvers was manufactured by order of the Russian Government and fielded to the Russian Army and Police Force for a long period. Great Duke Alexander Alexandrovich used this revolver to hunt for buffalo in Texas on December 6, 1871. Later he was proclaimed Emperor of Russia, Alexander III. It was his recommendation that had a positive impact on the Russian Military Department’s decision to field this model to the Russian Army.
Smith & Wesson Revolvers were manufactured in Tula (Russia) between 1893 and 1904.
